[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The Supreme Court of Canada ruled in favor of the United States in the extradition trial deciding whether to extradite Meng Wanzhou, Vice Chairwoman of the Chinese telecommunications equipment company Huawei, who is under house arrest in Canada.

According to The Wall Street Journal, on the 27th (local time), the British Columbia Supreme Court in Canada stated in the extradition hearing for Meng that "double criminality" could be recognized. The hearing will continue.

Double criminality means that the act of the accused is recognized as a crime in both the requesting and requested countries. This is a basic condition for initiating the extradition process.

Foreign media commented that this decision increases the possibility of Meng's extradition to the United States and will be a serious blow to Huawei and Meng Wanzhou.

Earlier, Meng was arrested in Canada in December 2018 on charges of violating U.S. sanctions against Iran by leading transactions between Iran and Huawei. The U.S. Department of Justice indicted Meng on charges including fraud and requested her extradition from Canada.
