Lee Sung-yeop, Founding President of the Korean Data Law and Policy Association, Professor at Korea University
[Asia Economy Reporter Seokjin Choi] The Korea Data Legal Policy Association (President Seongyeop Lee, Professor at Korea University), established for the purpose of researching legal policies for the utilization and protection of data, a core resource of the 4th Industrial Revolution, will hold its first regular academic conference.
The Korea Data Legal Policy Association announced on the 27th that it will hold the 1st regular academic conference on the 29th at 2 p.m. at the CJ Law Building of Korea University in Anam-dong, Seoul.
The Korea Data Legal Policy Association stated, "With the revision of the 'Data 3 Act' in January this year, social interest and issues regarding 'the use and activation of data' are increasing. We organized this academic conference to share professional knowledge and know-how among members on related issues and to contribute, even slightly, to future government policy development."
This regular academic conference consists of presentations and discussions of doctoral dissertations by emerging scholars who recently obtained PhDs in various fields such as data-related law, management, and economics.
In the first session (data law field), Dr. Wonjun Jeong from the Korea Information Society Development Institute will present on the topic "The Right to Data Portability and Practical Benefits and Legislative Measures for Its Introduction," followed by a discussion led by Professor Jiwon Seon from the Department of Law at Kwangwoon University.
Next, Dr. Kihong Kim from the Korea Copyright Commission will present on "A Study on the Legal Protection of Boundary-Creative Works," followed by a discussion by Professor Changhwa Kim from the Department of Law at Hanbat National University.
The chair of the first session will be Professor Youngjun Kwon from the Seoul National University School of Law.
In the second session (data policy field), Professor Yeri Kim from the College of Business at Sejong University will present on "Artificial Intelligence and Consumer Resistance," with Professor Minki Kim from the College of Business at KAIST serving as the discussant.
Following that, Dr. Jiyeon Cho from the Yonsei University Institute for Broadcasting and Communication Policy will present on "Big Data Value Creation and the Role of the Public Sector," with Dr. Kyunghoon Kim from the Korea Information Society Development Institute as the discussant.
The chair of the second session is expected to be Professor Minsu Shin from the Department of Business Administration at Hanyang University.
The overall conference proceedings and moderation will be handled by Professor Wankyu Jang from the Department of Law at Yongin Songdam College.
The comprehensive discussion, starting at 5:30 p.m., will be chaired by Professor Seongyeop Lee of the Graduate School of Technology Management at Korea University. Panelists include Professor Jaewon Kang from the Department of Media at Dongguk University, Professor Sunghwan Kim from the Department of Economics at Ajou University, Attorney Doil Son from Yulchon LLC, Professor Seungwoo Son from the Department of Industrial Security at Chung-Ang University, and Dr. Wontae Lee from the Korea Information Society Development Institute.
A dinner banquet for attendees is scheduled after the comprehensive discussion.
The Korea Data Legal Policy Association was founded on January 15 to prepare for the data economy era based on legal policy, science and technology, and information and communication technology (ICT) utilization, and to provide a research foundation for interdisciplinary research and exchanges among scholars and legal professionals in related academic fields.
Professor Seongyeop Lee, the inaugural president, graduated from the Department of Law at Korea University, the Graduate School of Public Administration at Seoul National University, and the University of Minnesota Law School, and earned a PhD in law from Seoul National University.
President Lee passed the 35th Administrative Examination in 1991, worked at the Ministry of Information and Communication and Kim & Chang Law Firm, and has been a professor at the Graduate School of Technology Management at Korea University since 2017, contributing to ICT legal policy research and the training of future scholars.
