Providing a total of over 500 million KRW in food ingredient package projects and quarantine budgets to local schools... Ensuring safety for school reopening
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Due to the prolonged spread of COVID-19, elementary, middle, and high schools that had conducted online classes have begun phased reopening for in-person attendance starting from the 20th. However, many parents and residents are concerned about the risk of COVID-19 infection and spread among students following the reopening.
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) is actively working to alleviate these concerns of parents and residents.
First, Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol personally conducted on-site inspections.
On the morning of the 27th, when kindergartens and 1st and 2nd graders of elementary schools began attending in person, Mayor Yoo visited Sindap Elementary School located in Dapsimni-dong to carefully observe the students' attendance situation and COVID-19 response status.
He also reviewed the emergency response manual for suspected COVID-19 cases and encouraged the school staff who were fully engaged in managing the reopening process.
Deputy Mayor Choi Hong-yeon also visited local high schools on the 20th and 21st, when 3rd-year high school students returned to school, to inspect the operation of the reopening and COVID-19 prevention measures.
Earlier, when online classes were implemented due to the spread of COVID-19, Dongdaemun-gu supported about 2,000 low-income elementary, middle, and high school students in the area who lacked the necessary online learning environment by providing smart devices to ensure they could participate in online classes without issues.
Additionally, last month, the district proactively distributed 34,740 cloth masks and 347,400 safety filters to kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools in the area. This was done ahead of the reopening to prioritize student safety above all.
Furthermore, this month, a total of over 500 million KRW was provided to support food ingredient package projects and school disinfection expenses for elementary, middle, and high school students.
Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun-gu stated, “Since the reopening is taking place under the difficult circumstances of COVID-19 spread, I ask that all students and staff strictly adhere to preventive behavior guidelines and related manuals. We will do our best to support not only the health and safety of students and staff until COVID-19 is eradicated but also to ensure that education proceeds smoothly.”
