14th Voluntary Agreement: 66 Companies Participating So Far
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will sign a voluntary agreement with Otis Elevator on the 28th to foster gender-balanced talent development.
This voluntary agreement is the 14th of its kind, with 66 companies participating so far. Otis Elevator is the first in the construction industry to join.
Otis Elevator announced that through this voluntary agreement, it will expand the recruitment of female talent in engineering, sales, and elevator maintenance technical positions by receiving university recommendations, and increase the proportion of female executives and managers by more than 5 percentage points from the current level to 13% and 9%, respectively, by 2022.
To this end, the company plans to activate the activities of the internal women's committee and consider officially introducing telecommuting as a program.
Jo Ik-seo, CEO of Otis Elevator, said, "Through this agreement, we will actively expand programs for gender balance and inclusive growth together with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family."
Lee Jung-ok, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, stated, "In the construction field, where women's participation is rare, cases of women with skills and expertise being appointed to senior positions have recently appeared frequently. I hope this will break the stereotype that it is a male domain and demonstrate that gender-balanced workforce utilization also contributes to the development of the construction industry."
