[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea surged by 40 on the 27th. This is the first time in 49 days since April 8 (53 cases) that new confirmed cases have reached the 40s.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on that day, the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases increased by 40 from the previous day to 11,265.


The number of new confirmed cases recorded in the 30s on the 10th and 11th after the cluster infection originating from Itaewon clubs spread, then dropped to the 20s from the 12th to the 15th, and further decreased to the 10s from the 16th to the 19th. However, it rose again to the 30s on the 20th, dropped to the 10s on the 21st, climbed back to the 20s from the 22nd to the 24th, fell to the 10s on the 25th and 26th, and then surged to the 40s on this day.


Among the new patients, 90% were in the Seoul metropolitan area: 19 in Seoul, 11 in Incheon, and 6 in Gyeonggi.


There were 37 domestic cases and 3 imported cases. The domestic cases were distributed as follows: 19 in Seoul, 10 in Incheon, 6 in Gyeonggi, and 2 in Daegu. The imported cases were confirmed as one each in Daegu, Incheon, and airport quarantine.


The number of patients who have been declared recovered and released from isolation reached 10,295, an increase of 20 from the previous day. The death toll remained at 269, unchanged from the previous day.
