Korean Party: "Yoon Mi-hyang, If You Think You Can Just Hold On a Little, You're Greatly Mistaken"

Korean Party: "Yoon Mi-hyang, If You Think You Can Just Hold On a Little, You're Greatly Mistaken" Yoon Mee-hyang, representative of the Korean Council for Justice and Remembrance for the Issues of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan, is urging the Japanese government to issue an official apology at the 1,343rd regular Wednesday demonstration for the resolution of the Japanese military sexual slavery issue, held on the 11th at Peace Road in front of the Embassy of Japan in Jongno-gu, Seoul. [Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 27th, the Future Korea Party criticized Yoon Mi-hyang, the elected member of the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "If you think the 21st National Assembly is just around the corner and you can just hold on a little longer, you are greatly mistaken," and asked, "Do you think you will be forgotten if you disappear right before our eyes?"

Lee Ik-seon, spokesperson for the Korea Party, said in a statement that day, "Yoon has disappeared. After creating a scene where she seemingly apologized to Grandma Lee Yong-soo without prior notice on the 19th, she has been completely out of contact for eight days," adding, "She resembles former Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don, who committed a sexual harassment incident and then went into hiding, too much to ignore."

Lee also pointed out, "The ruling party, after the general election, raised issues such as the salvage of the KAL plane fuselage, re-investigation of the cause of the accident, exhumation of pro-Japanese collaborators' graves in the National Cemetery, and re-investigation of former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook's case," and said, "They may be hoping that public interest in the Yoon Mi-hyang incident will fade, but our people are not that foolish."

He added, "The ruling party should not blind the eyes and ears of the people with the logic of 'if it disappears right before our eyes, it will be forgotten and issues will be covered by other issues,'" and stated, "It is unacceptable to act as if anything goes with the tremendous power of 177 seats. It is even more unacceptable to divide friend and foe by ideological logic and shake the rule of law."

Lee concluded, "Another comfort woman grandmother has passed away. Now only 17 remain alive," and said, "If we think of their honor and truly want to resolve their grievances during their lifetime, the ruling party should show responsibility by having Yoon resign as soon as possible and apologize to the people."
