[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] A forum discussing the direction of land, infrastructure, and transport policies after the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) will be held.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 27th that it will hold a symposium titled "The New Future of Cities, Homes, and Mobility in Post-COVID Korea Created by Innovation" at 3 p.m. on the 4th of next month at the Sejong Convention Center.

This event, organized to analyze the unprecedented impact of COVID-19 on the land, infrastructure, and transport sectors and to explore innovative measures to turn the crisis into new opportunities, will gather domestic scholars and experts to analyze and discuss topics such as the Green New Deal, contactless (untact) social logistics business, and new urban structure concepts.

Four scholars and experts are scheduled to present at the event. Yoo Jong-il, Dean of the KDI School of Public Policy and Management, will present on "The Necessity of the Post-COVID Green New Deal," proposing the paradigm shift of the global economy centered on the Green New Deal and the importance of the Korean-style Green New Deal as a solution to overcome post-COVID challenges.

Following him, Kim Seul-ah, CEO of Market Kurly, will discuss the current status and future growth potential of Market Kurly's service "Morning Delivery," in relation to the untact logistics industry that has gained attention due to COVID-19. Yoo Hyun-joon, Professor at Hongik University’s College of Architecture and Urban Planning, who has conveyed messages about cities and spaces to the public through various broadcasts, will present on "Spaces in Post-COVID," addressing new urban and spatial policies after COVID-19.

The final presenter, Kim Ki-hoon, Director of the Land Policy Division at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, will review changes in policy conditions caused by COVID-19 across sectors such as urban, housing, transportation, and industry, and propose key policy directions to respond accordingly.

In the subsequent discussion, chaired by Kang Hyun-soo, President of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, Park Jae-young, Head of Big Data Business at Shinhan Card, Kim Eun-hee, Research Fellow at the Architecture and Urban Space Research Institute, and So Jae-hyun, Research Fellow at the Korea Transport Institute, will exchange opinions from the perspectives of big data trends, architecture and housing, and transportation and logistics.

The event will be held both online and on-site. Although the main hall of the Sejong Convention Center can accommodate 300 people, seating will be arranged for about 90 people, including approximately 25 citizens, to comply with "social distancing" guidelines.

Citizens wishing to attend the symposium can pre-register through the websites of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements by the 31st. About 25 participants will be selected through this process. Suggestions for ideas regarding land and transport policies are also welcome.

To encourage broader participation and discussion from those unable to attend due to limited seating, the Ministry plans to livestream the symposium starting at 2:50 p.m., 10 minutes before the event, via KTV (Korea Policy Broadcasting) YouTube channel and the Ministry’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
