'World Heritage Festival Gyeongbuk' Held Throughout August
Traditional Performances, Reenactment Events, Seminars, Walking Tours
Planned for National Mental and Physical Healing and Tourism Industry Revitalization
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] 'Gyeongbuk World Heritage Festival,' one of the Cultural Heritage Administration's '5 Major Special Projects,' will be held as a large-scale project throughout August in the areas of Gyeongju, Andong, and Yeongju.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 27th, the 'Gyeongbuk World Heritage Festival' will be conducted with a budget of 3.85 billion KRW, offering various programs such as traditional performances, reenactment events, seminars, and walking tours to allow the entire nation to enjoy the meaning and value of world heritage. The world heritage sites in the Gyeongbuk region include Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple, Gyeongju Historic Areas, Hahoe and Yangdong villages, Buseoksa Temple, Bongjeongsa Temple, and Sosu, Oksan, Dosan, and Byeongsan Seowon Confucian Academies.
This plan was officially announced at the '2020 Cultural Heritage Visit Campaign Launch Ceremony' held on the 26th at Hwangudan in Seoul to promote domestic tourism through cultural heritage. Attendees at the launch ceremony included Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, Cultural Heritage Administration Commissioner Jeong Jae-sook, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Yang-woo, and Future United Party floor leader Joo Ho-young.
The 'Cultural Heritage Visit Campaign' on this day was an event planned by the Cultural Heritage Administration under the theme 'Together, Spring' to heal the minds and bodies of citizens weakened by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and to revitalize the tourism industry through cultural heritage.
The Cultural Heritage Administration provides various opportunities for the public to enjoy and experience cultural heritage through the '5 Major Special Projects' such as the World Heritage Festival and the Royal Culture Festival, as well as the '7 Visit Courses' including the Millennium Spirit Trail (Gyeongju and Andong).
Governor Lee Cheol-woo emphasized in his congratulatory speech, "I hope the Cultural Heritage Visit Campaign will heal the minds and bodies of citizens weakened by COVID-19 and revitalize the tourism industry," adding, "I also hope many citizens visit Gyeongbuk to fully enjoy the region's pristine environment and cultural heritage."
