Lotte Mall Suji Expands Communication with Local Community "Let's Overcome COVID-19 Together"

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Lotte Mall Suji is taking the lead in overcoming the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) by collaborating with the local community in various ways. While seeking coexistence with local small business owners whose sales channels have narrowed due to COVID-19, it is also preparing programs aimed at overcoming so-called ‘corona blue’ for family customers.

◆ Flea Market to Expand Sales Channels for Yongsan Small Business Owners = First, Lotte Mall Suji will hold a flea market with sellers from Yongin small business owners at the outdoor space of the first-floor main entrance from the 29th to the 31st of this month. This event is co-hosted with mom cafes in the Suji and Dongtan areas and was planned to expand sales channels for cafe members who are also local small business owners.

About 20 sellers will participate in this market, where baby and kids-related items can be found. From fashion items such as infant clothing and jewelry to toys and handmade items usable by adults, a variety of products will be introduced. All sellers will wear masks, and hand sanitizers will be provided. A portion of the flea market proceeds will be donated to local child welfare facilities.

◆ Comfort through Amateur Orchestra Concert = On the 30th, an amateur orchestra concert from the Yongin area will be held at the 4th-floor Green Hall. Held under the concept of a ‘Family Concert’ in celebration of May’s Family Month, the concert will deliver a message of comfort to customers from all walks of life who are struggling due to COVID-19. About 20 orchestra members will present a diverse harmony for approximately 80 minutes.

To prevent COVID-19 infection, Lotte Mall Suji will widen the distance between seats, provide hand sanitizers, and conduct temperature checks for customers wishing to attend.

◆ Exhibiting Works by Local Art Academy Students = Lotte Mall Suji is collaborating with local art academies to exhibit students’ works on the basement first floor. In July, it plans to hold an ‘Art Festival’ featuring not only exhibitions but also events such as face painting and caricatures. Now in its second year following last year, the festival will expand the types of works exhibited, including webtoons and photographs, and will also hold customer prize events.

Park Jae-hong, manager of Lotte Mall Suji, stated, “Since Lotte Mall Suji belongs to a ‘Sulse-gwon (Slipper + Area)’ with a high population density near the shopping mall, communication with the local community is very important,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen skinship with the local community and serve as a focal point for the regional community.”
