Negative on Revising the $3 Trillion Democratic Proposal
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senate Majority Leader of the United States, said on the 26th (local time) that an additional economic stimulus bill to respond to the economic downturn caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) would be introduced around next month.
According to CNN and other broadcasts, McConnell mentioned at a press conference held in his district, Kentucky, on the same day, "Around next month, we will probably talk about another bill."
He said, "There will probably be another bill. It will not be the $3 trillion bill that previously passed the House," suggesting that there may be a different approach from the bill passed by the House under Democratic leadership. He added, "But there is still likely a need for more."
The Republican Party and President Donald Trump have opposed the Democrats' budget bill and maintain the position that the effectiveness of the existing budget input should be evaluated before proposing additional large-scale stimulus measures.
When asked if he might change his mind about the bill passed by the House, McConnell firmly stated, "No. That will not happen."
While expressing strong reluctance to provide funding to resolve the financial difficulties of state and local governments, he said, "If it is directly related to COVID-19, there might be some additional support."
