Seoul City and 11st Support Farmers and Fishermen Affected by COVID-19 with 'National Agricultural and Marine Products Special Sale'

Military Governors' Council and Financial Labor Union Sign Business Agreement on 27th ... First Online Planning Exhibition from June 12 to 21

[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government will hold a "COVID-19 Affected Farm Support Regional Specialty Products Promotion" on the online shopping mall 11st from the 12th to the 21st of next month for ten days to support farmers and fishermen who are struggling to secure sales channels due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

On the 27th, Seoul announced that it will sign a "Regional Agricultural and Marine Products Sales Support and Consumption Promotion Business Agreement" with 11st, the National Association of County Governors of Rural Areas, and the National Financial Industry Labor Union at the Seoul City Hall video conference room in the afternoon.

According to the agreement, the city will select items to be featured in the 11st special sale by receiving recommendations from 72 local governments belonging to the County Governors Association, and 11st will actively support the revitalization of agricultural and marine product consumption by providing discount coupons and discounts when using affiliated cards.

The County Governors Association will recommend reliable agricultural products through thorough origin verification targeting its 72 member local governments and provide administrative and financial support such as packaging support for parcel sales to small and medium-sized farms in cooperation with local governments.

Earlier, in April and May of this year, the city also held a special exhibition called "Helping Together Win-Win Market" with 11st, helping sell regional agricultural and marine products worth up to 1.5 billion KRW.

In addition to the 11st online special exhibition, the city plans to steadily and systematically expand warm value consumption so that it does not end as a one-time support through ▲ opening regional halls within Garak Market e-mall for basic local governments without online sales space ▲ direct transaction markets using major subway stations such as Jamsil, Sadang, Wangsimni, Cheonho, and district marketplaces ▲ joint purchases through employees of the city hall, public corporations, investment institutions, and 25 autonomous districts ▲ solidarity between regions and village communities, and participation of civil society.

Separately, the Financial Labor Union, which has about 100,000 union members, is also conducting a "Agricultural Products Joint Purchase and Good Consumption Campaign" to promote joint purchases of agricultural and marine products from 72 local governments nationwide as part of its social contribution activities.

Park Won-soon, Mayor of Seoul, said, "This business agreement was prepared to overcome the COVID-19 crisis with the participation of Seoul, local regions, and the private sector together," adding, "Since this is a good opportunity for consumer citizens to purchase high-quality agricultural, marine, and livestock products nationwide at low prices, we will make sure this project does not remain a one-time event but becomes a sustainable sales support system for agricultural and marine products."
