[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] The 'Gyeongnam Content Enterprise Incubation Center' (hereinafter referred to as the Incubation Center), which will serve as a hub space for nurturing content companies in the Gyeongnam region, opened in Jangyu, Gimhae on the 26th.
The Incubation Center is the first content company support facility in Gyeongnam that discovers and nurtures convergence content utilizing Gyeongnam's cultural heritage and tourism resources, and supports startups and small and medium-sized enterprises in the content field with operation and capacity-building programs.
Selected in June 2018 as a project by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, a total of 21.4 billion KRW was invested from national, provincial, and city funds to build the facility with one basement floor and five above-ground floors, covering a total area of 5,608㎡, consisting of a company support building and a residence building. The company support building covers 4,991.51㎡ with one basement floor and five above-ground floors.
The first floor houses content demonstration rooms and exhibition halls for virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), etc.; the second floor includes the center operation office, resident company community, and single-person company office spaces; the third floor has classrooms, legal, accounting, and financial support offices, a smart media room, and a visual maker studio; the fourth and fifth floors contain 26 company offices, small conference rooms, and an office automation (OA) room.
In the company support building, 20 companies have moved in, possessing promising content such as webtoons, web novels, 3D animation, robot content, virtual reality games, drone manufacturing and sales, VR/AR-based simulation content development, or challenging new fields like big data-based writing platform development.
The province explained that the Incubation Center will actively support entry into emerging markets by creating new added value through convergence of content with existing industries with strategies differentiated from the metropolitan area, enabling individual companies to fully demonstrate their capabilities.
Kim Kyung-soo, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, said, "Along with fostering the content industry, it would be good to consider directions that can create synergy by converging with Gyeongnam's strengths in manufacturing," and added, "I hope the Gyeongnam Content Enterprise Incubation Center will lead the content industry in the Southeast region, including the international film festival in Busan and the video industry beyond Gyeongnam."
