[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] An encore exhibition of French painter Toulouse-Lautrec, regarded as a pioneer of modern graphic art, will open on the 6th of next month and run until September 13 at the Hangaram Art Museum in the Seoul Arts Center.
The Lautrec exhibition originally opened on January 14 this year and was held at the same venue until May 16. After the exhibition in Seoul, a touring exhibition was planned in Florida, USA, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, it became difficult to transport the artworks back to Greece, where the original pieces are housed, leading to the realization of the encore exhibition in Korea.
This exhibition features over 150 authentic Lautrec works, including drawings, prints, and sketches, from the Herakleidon Museum in Greece.
The organizer, Made in View, announced that the encore exhibition will enhance the media art section by selecting eight of Lautrec's oil paintings to be recreated as media art. They also added content and behind-the-scenes stories to the video section, which was well received in the previous exhibition, and introduced changes to the exhibition hall’s design concept.
To commemorate the encore exhibition, a 70% discount will be offered to those who purchase advance tickets sold from the 26th until the 2nd of next month. Additionally, visitors who attended the previous exhibition and possess a physical ticket can enjoy admission for 1,000 KRW upon verification on-site until July 6.
Lautrec is known as the "Father of Modern Posters." In the late 19th century, he sharply depicted the life of Parisian bohemians, using Montmartre?the artistic district?and the Moulin Rouge, a symbol of nightlife, as his stage. Lautrec left over 5,000 works during his short 37-year life, earning him the title of the "Little Giant of Montmartre" and touching many people. The representative works showcased in this exhibition are also symbols of Paris’s "La Belle Epoque" (Beautiful Era) at the end of the 19th century.
This exhibition offers a comprehensive look not only at Lautrec’s artworks but also at his dramatic life through videos, media art, and his illustrations that captured everyone’s attention at the time. The Lautrec exhibition has been touring since 2007 in Greece, the United States, Italy, and other countries.
