[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] Yoo Seung-min, a member of the Future United Party who did not run in the April 15 general election, has expressed his intention to challenge the 2022 presidential election.
On the 26th, Yoo stated in a video message posted on his fan club 'Yusimcho' cafe, "The primary election for next year's presidential candidate and the presidential election to be held in 1 year and 10 months will be my last remaining political challenge."
He said, "I will definitely become the unified conservative candidate, advance to the main election, and defeat the Democratic Party candidate," adding, "I have been preparing myself with this determination all along." He also said, "Many people have given me advice and suggestions," and added, "Please continue to give me love and courage, and if I make mistakes, please also criticize me."
Yoo has been classified as a potential conservative opposition presidential candidate, but this is the first time he has directly expressed his intention to run for president since the general election.
Referring to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), he emphasized, "This is a national crisis now, and even after COVID-19 ends, a tremendous economic crisis will come," adding, "As an economic expert, politician, and someone planning to run for president, I think this era is, in a way, a fateful period for me."
