[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] On the 25th, the Democratic Party of Korea maintained its original stance of waiting for the investigation results regarding the controversy surrounding Yoon Mi-hyang, the Democratic Party elected representative, even after Grandmother Lee Yong-soo's second press conference. In response, Cho Su-jin, spokesperson for the Future Korea Party, criticized, "Does the Democratic Party still not trust Grandmother Lee Yong-soo?"
On the 25th, Cho posted on her Facebook, "Grandmother Lee Yong-soo held her second press conference. The Democratic Party, through its chief spokesperson, reiterated the position that 'fact-checking comes first' and 'since the prosecution's investigation is ongoing, we will wait for the results and then decide on future positions,'" she said.
She added, "It is frustrating and infuriating," and criticized, "If they trusted this grandmother, would they keep repeating the claim that 'fact-checking comes first'?"
She continued, "Yoon Mi-hyang will become a member of the National Assembly in five days. Saying that they will wait for the prosecution's investigation and then decide on Yoon's position just five days before the start of her term can only be interpreted as 'just letting it slide,'" she sharply criticized.
Furthermore, she stated, "It is best and optimal for the Democratic Party to settle Yoon's position even now," and argued, "When the prosecution raided the Justice and Memory Foundation (Jeonguiyeondae) a few days ago, Democratic Party leaders such as Nam In-soon and Lee Hyung-seok fiercely criticized the prosecution in public. It is uncertain whether the Democratic Party will accept the prosecution's investigation results. This is why the Democratic Party must immediately launch its own internal investigation even now," she claimed.
Cho also pointed out repeatedly, "Anyone with common sense knows that the issues raised by this grandmother and the media are not to disparage Jeonguiyeondae or Yoon Mi-hyang's past activities, but to correct long-standing wrongful practices," and added, "No matter how righteous the purpose, illegal or illicit methods cannot be justified. The Democratic Party must no longer ignore the essence of the matter."
Earlier, Grandmother Lee held a second press conference in Daegu in the afternoon and said about Yoon Mi-hyang, "She filled her own selfish desires and arbitrarily ran as a proportional representative for the National Assembly," and added, "(Regarding her candidacy) she did not even talk to me. Since she did it on her own, what more forgiveness can I give?"
She continued, "Regarding Yoon Mi-hyang's recent visit after the first press conference, I burst into tears, but the articles saying I forgave her are absurd," and expressed her anger, "This person does whatever she wants and abandons things at will. How could she have done this for 30 years and then abandoned everything without a single word?"
