[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Emart, the Ministry of Environment, and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute are promoting eco-friendly consumption ahead of Environment Day on June 5.
Emart announced on the 26th that, together with related government agencies, it will hold a 'Green Shopping' promotion for three weeks from the 28th of this month to July 17.
As sustainability and eco-friendly management thinking about the future have become a ‘must’ rather than a choice, Emart aims to lead the creation of ‘Eco-friendly Emart’ stores by informing and encouraging customers about Emart’s eco-friendly activities and products through this event.
First, Emart will run a promotion where customers earn 5 times Eco Money points when purchasing eco-friendly certified products linked to the ‘Green Card’ in categories such as fresh food, processed goods, detergents, and daily necessities using the Green Card. However, alcoholic beverages, electronics, furniture, imported goods, and some other products are excluded.
Eco Money is points accumulated each time the Green Card is used for eco-friendly activities such as purchasing certified products or using public transportation. For example, purchasing ‘Codi Eco Green Toilet Paper (11,900 KRW)’ earns 2,500 points. Accumulated points can be used at affiliated stores at a rate of 1 point per 1 KRW, and at Emart, they can be exchanged for Shinsegae gift certificates. Eco Money points will be paid out in bulk after the event ends.
Discounts on eco-friendly certified products and gift promotions are also planned. Emart will hold discount events on eco-friendly food and eco-friendly processed and hygiene products for three weeks. For fresh products, the items can be changed weekly. Domestic ‘Pesticide-free Brown Rice (3kg)’ is available at 7,980 KRW, 43% cheaper than the original 13,980 KRW, and ‘Ppuritto Eco-friendly Hygiene Gloves (100 pieces)’ can be purchased at a 30% discount for 1,660 KRW. In particular, ‘Sangha Farm’ organic milk, yogurt, and other event products are sold at a 20% discount, with an additional 30% discount when purchasing two items.
Also, customers who set the Emart app to ‘Receive Mobile Receipt Only’ and purchase over 100,000 KRW will receive one of 100,000 ‘Tumo Shopping Bags’ featuring Emart’s eco-friendly character ‘Tumo’ on a first-come, first-served basis between the 28th and July 10. After July 10, 25,000 Tumo emoticons will be given away by lottery to customers participating in the Emart app event.
Park Seung-hak, Emart’s CSR manager, said, “In step with the eco-friendly era, Emart supports various eco-friendly activities such as the ‘Mobile Receipt Campaign,’ ‘Eco-friendly Shopping Bag Campaign,’ and ‘Reduction of Roll Vinyl.’ We will continue to lead the introduction of eco-friendly stores.”
