Park Young-seop, president of the Merchants' Federation, said in his greeting, "Due to the sharp decline in sales, tailored support is urgently needed to overcome various crises such as maintaining employee employment, lack of operating funds for stores, and establishing a continuous quarantine system," and requested special measures.
At the meeting, proposals were made regarding specific support measures for traditional markets affected by the entry of large marts and food material marts, as well as holding workshops for fostering advanced merchants and communication.
Mayor Lee Gang-deok of Pohang said, "As COVID-19 prolongs, the economic crisis is spreading beyond traditional markets to the entire region due to decreased visitors and sales decline," adding, "We will seek alternatives to strengthen the self-sustainability of traditional markets based on the vivid opinions from the field raised at today's meeting."
Meanwhile, Pohang City is establishing and implementing various projects to revitalize traditional markets, including ▲support for quarantine supplies and operation of quarantine consulting teams in response to COVID-19 infection ▲support for creating COVID-safe clean markets ▲market management voucher support ▲tax support such as small business card fees and water and sewage charges ▲and the PungPung Sale Festa.
