[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] BMW Korea will unveil the new BMW 5 Series and 6 Series models for the first time in the world at the BMW Driving Center on the 27th.
This event, broadcast live simultaneously worldwide through BMW's digital channels, is attracting even more attention as it is the first large-scale automotive event globally since the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, the BMW Driving Center, selected as the world premiere venue, is drawing focus.
Among the three driving centers owned by BMW Group in the United States, Germany, and Korea, the Yeongjongdo Driving Center is the only one chosen as the world premiere location. This reflects Korea's situation, which has quickly entered a stabilization phase with exemplary quarantine measures and a high level of civic awareness amid the global COVID-19 crisis, as well as the fact that it meets the high standards for 'untact' marketing that only BMW can offer in the post-COVID era.
The BMW Driving Center was established in 2014 with an investment of 77 billion KRW as a driving complex cultural space where families can enjoy exhibitions and experiences. It is the third driving center after Germany and the United States and the first in Asia to have a driving track. It is the only facility in Korea where vehicle viewing, test drives, and ongoing driving education programs can be experienced in one place.
BMW Korea also expanded the Driving Center last year with a new investment of 12.5 billion KRW. More than 50,000 square meters of space were added, bringing the total area to 291,802 square meters.
BMW Korea will conduct this world premiere in a non-face-to-face, contactless manner. To prevent the resurgence of COVID-19, all events will take place without direct contact, with participants individually boarding separate BMW vehicles prepared at the Driving Center.
BMW Group executives, who had originally planned to visit the Busan Motor Show, will greet customers via video due to Korea's quarantine guidelines requiring a mandatory two-week self-isolation upon entry from abroad, making it difficult for them to visit Korea.
