[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Oh Young-woo, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, attended the 'Children's Book Exchange Event' held at the outdoor plaza of Sejong City Hall on the 25th, comforting children whose outdoor activities have been restricted due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Co-hosted by Sejong City and the Korea Library Association, the event was attended by about 200 people including Yoon Cheol-ho, chairman of the Korea Publishing Culture Association who donated 1,000 new children's books, Sejong citizens wishing to exchange children's books, and children.
At the event, in addition to citizens who applied in advance through Sejong City public libraries, citizens who could not apply in advance due to busy schedules but visited the site also exchanged up to two books per person. Additionally, side events such as the 'Heart Soothing Sentence Jangdokdae,' where participants shared sentences from books, and the 'Heart Soothing Bookshelf,' where citizens shared recommended books, were held.
Vice Minister Oh said, "Our country is recognized worldwide as an excellent country in COVID-19 prevention thanks to the efforts of not only children but all citizens," and added, "Although it is difficult, I hope everyone will cooperate a little more."
He also recommended the book 'Al Satang' by author Baek Hee-na, who won the Swedish Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, and 'I Can't Fall Apart,' selected as a Sejong Book by the Publication Culture Industry Promotion Agency in 2019, as recommended readings.
