[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chosun University of Science and Technology is attracting attention by opening a new type of open library.
Chosun University of Science and Technology (President Cho Soon-gye) announced on the 25th that after much consideration on how university students could easily access books, it created and opened the ‘JOY Library’.
The ‘JOY Library’ held its opening ceremony on the 21st and has officially started operations.
Chosun University of Science and Technology established a new open space called the ‘JOY Library’ in the lobby on the first floor of Building 3 to provide science and engineering students with easier access to liberal arts and social humanities information, which they might otherwise neglect, and to promote active communication among members.
The ‘JOY Library,’ the first open library of its kind among university libraries in the Honam region, houses a total of about 3,500 donated books and 1,400 copies of 230 different periodicals. Beyond the traditional functions of a library such as book reading, it is also planned to be used as a diverse cultural communication space.
Unlike the typical image of a library, the ‘JOY Library’ features atmospheric ceiling lighting, convenient seating arrangements, and even a small stage for holding small-scale concerts.
Alongside this, Chosun University of Science and Technology has completed a student-tailored one-stop service space called the ‘Student Dream Center’ right next to the ‘JOY Library.’
The ‘Student Dream Center’ for one-stop student competency development services is a space where experts are always present to provide one-stop counseling from admission to graduation, including psychological counseling, career counseling, student competency development counseling, and academic counseling.
Through the Student Dream Center, Chosun University of Science and Technology expects to take a step closer to nurturing talents equipped with both character and job skills that meet the demands of society and companies, as well as supporting students’ employment and entrepreneurship.
President Cho Soon-gye of Chosun University of Science and Technology said, “With the establishment of a new type of learning and cultural space never seen before, we expect to provide students with a unique experience,” and added, “I hope COVID-19 ends soon so that our students can freely utilize the ‘JOY Library’ and the ‘Student Dream Center.’”
