[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] The Ho-Am Prize ceremony of Samsung Group will not be held this year.
On the 25th, the Ho-Am Foundation announced that it has decided not to hold the 30th anniversary Ho-Am Prize ceremony due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19.
The Ho-Am Prize was established in 1990 by Lee Kun-hee, chairman of Samsung Electronics, to honor the spirit of talent-first and social contribution of Ho-Am Lee Byung-chul, the founder of Samsung.
The Ho-Am Prize ceremony is an event held every year on June 1st at the Ho-Am Art Hall on Seosomun-ro, Jung-gu, with participation from Samsung Group executives and various figures from different fields.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the prize, but the ceremony has been canceled for the first time.
This year’s Ho-Am Prize recipients are: Kim Subong, senior researcher at the Institute for Basic Science, Sungkyunkwan University for Science; Lim Jaesoo, professor at MIT for Engineering; Park Seungjeong, distinguished professor at Ulsan University for Medicine; Kim Minki, representative of the theater company Hakjeon for Arts; and Kim Seongsu, village chief of Woori Village for Social Service.
