[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, stated on the 25th regarding the ‘Yoon Mi-hyang incident,’ “Last Saturday marked the 11th anniversary of the passing of the late President Roh Moo-hyun. If he were alive, how would he have responded to last year’s Cho Kuk incident and the current Yoon Mi-hyang incident?” He added, “He would probably have sharply rebuked, saying ‘You should be ashamed!’”

At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Ahn said, “The ruling party claims that they will build ‘a fair society without cheating and privileges, a just country, and a world where people live together’ as the late president dreamed, but I ask whether the current behavior truly aligns with his intentions.”

He pointed out, “The attitude and behavior recently shown by the ruling party are very far from the world without cheating and privileges that President Roh emphasized. The spirit of tolerance and integration has disappeared; they are strict with others but infinitely lenient with themselves, show no interest in objective truth, and only assert subjective justice. We need to reflect on whether this is the case.”

He continued, “If the perception and attitude shown by the ruling party, which holds 177 seats, effectively 180 seats, continue, cheating and privileges will become normalized, and justice, fairness, the health of the community, and universal values will collapse. The vested interests belonging to political camps will only be strengthened,” he added.

Ahn stated, “If one claims to be the successor of the Roh Moo-hyun spirit, who tried to change the Republic of Korea with pure passion, it is now time to move beyond Cho Kuk and promptly correct the Yoon Mi-hyang issue. Attempts to use political power to overturn the substantive truth of former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook’s trial must be stopped immediately.”

Ahn said, “The lesson from President Roh’s politics is a rational and practical reform focused on problem-solving that transcends ideology and political camps. The People’s Party will proactively consider national integration and future agendas for the Republic of Korea and seek alternatives.”
