[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 24th that it plans to install 92 rapid chargers this year to expand the supply of eco-friendly vehicles.
The private rapid charger installation support project, agreed upon with the Korea Energy Agency, provides 50% of the installation cost through the Korea Energy Agency, and the city will additionally invest a total of 200 million KRW, ranging from 5 million to 14 million KRW per unit, to support 40 units (based on 50 kW).
The support targets private charging operators who secure parking spaces suitable for installing rapid chargers at private convenience facilities such as apartments, gas stations, convenience stores, franchise restaurants, and coffee shops, and install public rapid chargers for electric vehicles.
Private rapid charger installation businesses wishing to apply can refer to the city website's public notice and submit their applications.
Additionally, the Ministry of Environment's public rapid charger supply project for public institutions is currently installing 20 units, with 32 more units applied for this year, totaling 52 units to be installed.
Jung Dong-hoon, head of the city's Climate and Air Quality Division, said, “We will continue to expand the electric vehicle charging infrastructure to improve air quality and foster future industry growth,” and added, “We hope for active interest in using eco-friendly vehicles such as electric cars.”
