[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] A current police officer accused of passing raid information to prostitution operators and receiving bribes has been brought to trial.

The Tax Crime Criminal Division of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Han Tae-hwa) announced on the 24th that they have arrested and indicted A (46), a police inspector affiliated with the Dongdaemun Police Station in Seoul, on charges of dereliction of duty, official secret leakage, and bribery after improper conduct.

Inspector A is accused of not filing charges after uncovering the prostitution mediation activities of B (39), the owner of a prostitution establishment, in February last year, and for passing raid information to B and receiving money over the course of a year until February this year.

The prosecution also indicted B on charges including violation of the Act on the Punishment of Acts of Arranging Sexual Traffic and bribery. The prosecution believes that B mediated prostitution in officetels in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, and other areas for over five years since 2015, earning approximately 900 million won in illegal profits.

Additionally, C, another police officer from the same police station who is suspected of conspiring with Inspector A, was indicted without detention on charges of dereliction of duty and official secret leakage.

The police suspended Inspector A from duty on the 21st of last month.
