[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] An air force unit is on high alert after a memo was found stating, "I have suspected symptoms of COVID-19, but I am afraid of punishment, so I am reporting anonymously."
According to the Air Force on the 23rd, a memo was discovered the previous day at the 'Sowonsuri Ship' flight unit located in the metropolitan area, requesting testing for all unit members due to overlapping movements with a confirmed COVID-19 case.
The anonymous author of the memo apologized, stating, "I stopped by a karaoke room on my way back from going out, and my movements overlapped with a nurse who tested positive, and I have suspected COVID-19 symptoms."
They continued, "I am afraid of being scolded and punished, so I am voluntarily reporting anonymously. Please conduct COVID-19 testing for all soldiers. I will isolate myself within the barracks."
In response, the unit conducted fever checks on all members but reportedly found no abnormalities. They are also restricting all members from going out or staying overnight outside the base, and are not ruling out the possibility that this may be a prank.
An Air Force official stated, "We are encouraging the person who wrote the memo to come forward voluntarily, assuring that there will be no punishment, but no one has come forward yet."
