This is the secret behind Park Hyun-kyung's (20, Korea Land Trust) 'Major Queen' title. After equipping a new weapon, she achieved her first career victory (17 under par 271) at the KLPGA Championship (total prize money 3 billion KRW), the first major of the 2020 KLPGA Tour season, which concluded on the 17th at Lakewood Golf Club in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province. This victory holds special significance as the first win worldwide after the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), earning her a winner's prize of 220 million KRW.
Park Hyun-kyung was one of the 'National Team Big 3' alongside Jo Ah-yeon (20, Volvik) and Lim Hee-jeong (20, Hanwha Q CELLS) during her amateur days. While Jo Ah-yeon (2 wins) and Lim Hee-jeong (3 wins) had successful seasons last year, Park struggled emotionally due to not securing a win. To overcome this disappointing performance, she focused on increasing her driving distance during the off-season with swing coach Lee Si-woo. Through consistent swing corrections, she improved shot accuracy, which naturally led to increased driving distance.
Additionally, she saw significant benefits by switching to Bridgestone Golf's 'Distance Monster' new JGR driver. She also chose Bridgestone Golf products for her fairway wood (15 degrees, Tour B XD-F), utility clubs (18, 21, 25 degrees, Tour B XD-H), and irons (#5 to #P, Tour B X-CB).
