[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] "I love being able to do gardening activities with my family every weekend." The rooftop of Smilegate's office building, a game company located in Pangyo, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, has recently been transformed into 'Smile Farm (Nongjang).' Smilegate remodeled the rooftop, which was usually a space where employees smoked and was abandoned, into a garden.
According to Smilegate on the 23rd, the idea of creating an organizational culture where employees can interact together led to the promotion of Smile Farm, and a pilot operation began last April.
With the rooftop garden, it is said to have become a 'healing place' for Smilegate employees tired of their daily lives. The garden was created opposite the existing smoking area, and all necessary convenience facilities for gardening were installed, including an automatic watering system, storage lockers, and shared farming tools. A resting area where employees can relax while enjoying Smile Farm was also created.
The response from employees has been positive. Park Sangmin, a Smilegate RPG manager, said, "As a non-smoker, I rarely went to the rooftop and found it hard to get fresh air, but now I enjoy taking breaks on the rooftop while managing the garden."
Currently, 21 teams have leased garden plots and are farming. Various in-house clubs, such as the flower club and cat club, also participate actively in cultivating crops and making donations. In particular, some employees have started gardening with their families on weekends, making it serve well as a 'weekend farm.' Kim Younggi, a Smilegate Entertainment manager, stated, "I am making happy memories with my children while doing gardening activities at my dad's company."
