Daegu City Dance Company, International Contemporary Dance Festival Closing Stage 'Finale'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] The Daegu City Dance Company (Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer Kim Seong-yong) announced on the 22nd that it has been invited to perform at the closing performance of the 39th International Modern Dance Festival 'MODAFE' on the 28th and 29th.

The new work 'Bi' (Be) by Director Kim Seong-yong, which will conclude the festival, is a large theater piece lasting about 70 minutes and is the only solo performance among this year's festival invitations. MODAFE, Korea's longest-running modern dance festival, has been held for 16 days from the 14th to the 29th at Arko Arts Theater in Dongsung-dong, Seoul, and the I-eum Art Hall of the Korea Disabled Artists Culture Center.

Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), this year's festival features only domestic teams, with leading Korean modern dance choreographers such as An Ae-sun, Jeong Young-du, Lee Kyung-eun, Kim Seong-yong, and Kim Seol-jin participating. Notably, all performances of this festival are being broadcast live online alongside in-person viewing.

The dance company explained that having the Daegu City Dance Company's work selected as the closing piece of MODAFE holds special significance. The festival, themed 'Little Hero, Come Together,' presents dance movements that comfort citizens whose daily lives have been disrupted by the COVID-19 disaster.

Artistic Director Kim Seong-yong stated, "I believe that the dances we perform can influence members of society, and we must also take responsibility for that." He added, "We will continue to operate the dance company by seeking various breakthroughs in response to social changes."

Meanwhile, the Daegu City Dance Company is preparing to screen a film version of its postponed regular performance due to COVID-19 in August, and plans a large-scale outdoor performance in September. Information about the 39th International Modern Dance Festival and how to watch the online live broadcast can be found on the official MODAFE website.
