Multiplex CGV announced on the 22nd that it will broadcast live League of Legends matches at twenty-four ScreenX locations nationwide.
ScreenX is a theater that expands the screen not only to the front but also to the left and right walls. It enhances the immersion of movie viewing and maximizes the sense of presence of various alternative contents. Representative successful cases include ‘Big Bang Made’ and ‘Love Yourself in Seoul’. Performances filmed with three cameras are displayed panoramically on three screens. The front screen shows the stage, while the left and right screens show close-ups of the artists' faces illuminated by spotlights.
League of Legends will be broadcast live in a similar way. The front screen will show the main broadcast screen, while the left and right screens will display the mini-map and stat data respectively. An official stated, “We will combine ScreenX’s technology with the characteristics of eSports matches to elevate the appeal of alternative content to the next level.”
League of Legends is an online game where players destroy the opponent’s base with characters in a limited space. The tournament being broadcast live this time is the Mid-Season Cup. Top teams from Korea and China are divided into two groups to compete. Group A includes Korea’s T1 and Damwon Gaming, and China’s Top Esports and FunPlus Phoenix. Group B includes Korea’s Gen.G Esports and DragonX, and China’s JD Gaming and Invictus Gaming. Group stage matches will be held on the 28th and 29th at 4 PM. The semifinals will take place on the 30th at 2 PM, and the finals on the 31st at 6 PM, all in a best-of-five format.
