[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chosun University Hospital (Director Jeong Jong-hoon) and the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency (Director Jo Won-hyun) have joined hands in managing brain-dead organ donations.
According to Chosun University Hospital on the 22nd, the two organizations signed an agreement the day before to promote efficient management of brain-dead donors and activate organ donation.
The signing ceremony was attended by about 20 officials from both organizations, including Jeong Jong-hoon, Director of Chosun University Hospital, and Jo Won-hyun, Director of the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency.
Through this agreement, the two organizations agreed to ▲actively identify suspected brain-dead donors and establish a rapid communication system ▲perform prompt brain death determination and efficient management without transferring brain-dead organ donors ▲guarantee acquisition of medical information for donation and cooperate in medical administrative support ▲actively cooperate when transfer of suspected brain-dead donors is necessary.
Chosun University Hospital has been dedicated to improving public health in the Honam region and promoting the health of local residents. Last year, it conducted 10 brain-dead organ donations, ranking seventh among medical institutions nationwide in the number of donations.
Jeong Jong-hoon, Director of Chosun University Hospital, said, “With this agreement, Chosun University Hospital will do its best to activate organ donation. Also, through prompt and efficient management of brain-dead organ donors, we hope more lives will find hope.”
Jo Won-hyun, Director of the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency, stated, “Currently, there are more than 30,000 patients waiting for transplants, and unfortunately, many lose their lives during this process. We expect that through this agreement, organ donation will be activated so that more patients can return to their families and society in good health.”
