Reflecting Trendy Sensibilities, 'Samlip Eats' and 'Pig in the Garden'
Q1 Fresh Food Sales Increase 26% Year-on-Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] SPC Samlip is strengthening its attack on the convenience food market through 'Samlip Eats' and 'Pig in the Garden'.
SPC Samlip's convenience food brand Samlip Eats is based on the concept of 'Urban Life Convenient Gourmet,' reflecting an urban and trendy sensibility, allowing busy modern people in their 20s and 30s to enjoy a quick and delicious meal. It currently offers a variety of categories including porridge, hot dogs, gukbap (soup with rice), and snacks.
The representative product, 'Samlip Eats Porridge,' uses domestically grown 'Sindongjinmi' rice grains that are thick and have a high moisture content. To match the product characteristics, various broths such as beef bone, seafood, chicken, and vegetable are blended to create a savory taste. Three types are sold: 'Beef Mushroom Porridge,' 'Abalone Shrimp Porridge,' and 'Nutritious Samgye Porridge.'
'Beef Mushroom Porridge' contains minced beef and king oyster mushrooms in beef bone and vegetable broth, while 'Abalone Shrimp Porridge' includes minced abalone and shrimp in seafood and beef bone broth. 'Nutritious Samgye Porridge' is made with chicken breast in chicken and vegetable broth. After heating in the microwave for 2 minutes, consumers can add the included secret sauces such as 'Egg Spread,' 'Seaweed & Sesame Topping,' and 'Sesame Oil' according to their preference. These products are available at convenience stores nationwide.
'Samlip Eats Hot Dog' started with the Frankfurter hot dog and has expanded its product range to include crispy cheese, potato, and mozzarella cheese varieties. Using the German-style meat processing brand 'Grik Schwein,' customers can enjoy juicy sausage flavors. 'Samlip Eats Gukbap' offers two types: 'Dried Pollack Gukbap,' which has a refreshing taste using dried pollack, and 'Yukgaejang Gukbap,' which has a spicy flavor based on savory beef bone broth. They can be conveniently prepared by microwaving for 4 minutes.
Sales of the salad brand Pig in the Garden are also steadily increasing. Pig in the Garden is a product that allows consumers to conveniently purchase fresh salads, incorporating the know-how of SPC Group's fine casual salad specialty store Pig in the Garden, at nearby discount stores, convenience stores, and online. The lineup includes bowl salads, mini salads, and salad kits.
Thanks to the popularity of Pig in the Garden, SPC Samlip's fresh food sales in the first quarter of this year increased by 26% compared to the same period last year. This is mainly attributed to the trend of seeking healthy convenience foods and the development of logistics and delivery systems, which has increased the number of consumers using online fresh food delivery. The 'Pig in the Garden Salad Kit,' which packages vegetables and sauces in small portions, was launched as an online-exclusive product in August last year and has been growing by an average of 26% monthly.
An SPC Samlip marketing official said, "With the increase in single-person households and dual-income families, the convenience food market is expected to expand further," adding, "We will nurture various HMR categories in line with market trends."
