[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea increased by 12 on the 21st.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on that day, the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases rose by 12 from the previous day’s midnight to 11,122.


The number of new confirmed cases recorded in the 30s on the 10th and 11th, following the spread of the Itaewon club cluster infection, then decreased to the 20s from the 12th to the 15th, and further declined to the 10s from the 16th to the 19th. However, the previous day saw a return to the 30s after 9 days, before dropping back to the 10s on this day.


Among the new cases, 10 were domestic transmissions and 2 were imported cases. The domestic cases were distributed as 6 in Incheon, 3 in Seoul, and 1 in Chungnam. The imported cases were confirmed as 1 each in Seoul and at airport quarantine.


The number of patients who have been declared recovered and released from isolation reached 10,135, an increase of 69 from the previous day. The death toll rose by 1 to 264.
