[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] On the 20th, when the return to school for high school seniors began, five people in Incheon, including two high school seniors and their families, tested positive for COVID-19 related to a private academy instructor.

Incheon City announced that the mother (45) and younger sibling (12) of high school senior B (18), who contracted COVID-19 after visiting a karaoke room attended by a student of the private academy instructor A (25, Incheon patient No. 102), as well as the mother (45) of C (18), were additionally infected that afternoon.

B and C, who attend Inhang High School, visited a karaoke room on the second floor of the Vision Plaza building in Michuhol-gu on the 6th and were confirmed positive that morning. As a result, remote classes were conducted instead of in-person attendance at their school and nearby Jeongseok Aviation High School and Inha University Affiliated High School.

The karaoke room was previously visited on the 6th by a student of private academy instructor A (a high school senior, Incheon patient No. 119) who had visited Itaewon clubs, along with his friend (Incheon patient No. 122).

According to epidemiological investigations, B’s mother worked at a supermarket in Seo-gu on the 16th and 18th while wearing a mask. On the 17th, she took her two sons by car to an outdoor wedding venue in another area.

As of this day, the total number of COVID-19 cases related to private academy instructor A is 30, including 16 students and young children. The cumulative number of confirmed cases in Incheon is 139.

A, who tested positive after visiting King Club and pubs in Itaewon, Seoul on the 2nd and 3rd, initially concealed his occupation and provided false information about his movements during the epidemiological investigation, leading to his being reported to Incheon City for violating the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act.
