[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Chang-woo Lee) is producing a Braille civil service guidebook for the visually impaired.
It was found that visually impaired individuals account for about 11% of the total 14,657 registered disabled persons in the area.
Accordingly, the district is creating a Braille civil service guidebook to provide convenient civil service processing and enhance administrative service accessibility for the visually impaired, aiming to resolve inconveniences and offer empathetic and communicative civil service.
The "Braille Civil Service Guidebook for the Visually Impaired" includes ▲ convenient civil services (including Braille passport issuance guidance) ▲ social welfare service application guidance ▲ useful civil service systems ▲ contact numbers for community service centers, and other essential civil information for daily life.
In particular, it provides guidance on various applications and exemption services such as disability pension and allowance applications, disability welfare card issuance, gas bill and TV license fee exemptions, which is expected to be helpful for the visually impaired and welfare workers at social welfare organizations.
The produced guidebooks will be distributed from the end of this month at the district office, community service centers, and disability welfare facilities.
Additionally, the district will promote a rest support project for families with disabilities in the area who are exhausted due to the COVID-19 situation.
To provide time for "rest" and "recharging" for families with disabilities, the project will support ▲ individual family travel and camps ▲ day trip expenses, recruiting 13 families with disabilities in the area until the 22nd.
Any family with disabilities in Dongjak-gu and nearby areas can participate, and applications can be made through the Dongjak-gu Disabled Family Support Center website.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Senior and Disabled Affairs Division.
Hong-yeol Lee, head of the Senior and Disabled Affairs Division, said, "We will continue to work to improve the welfare level of persons with disabilities across employment, culture, and care by promoting projects that resolve daily inconveniences and support the lives of families with disabilities."
The district is investing a total of 277 million KRW by November to improve safety facilities for the disabled on sidewalks at 54 locations across 7 routes including Deungyong-ro.
