Starting from the 20th, first-come-first-served registration on Dobong-gu Integrated Library website... Bookstart packages home delivery in non-face-to-face method from June 1 to prevent COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) is implementing a delivery service called ‘Book Ddok Ddok’ to allow infants and toddlers to safely receive Bookstart packages at home in response to the spread of COVID-19.
Bookstart is a social childcare support program aimed at enabling all infants and toddlers to experience books and library services from birth, under the concept of ‘Starting life with books.’
‘Book Ddok Ddok’ is a non-face-to-face service that allows users who have had difficulty using library services on time due to the spread of COVID-19 and social distancing to safely receive Bookstart book packages at home, instead of visiting Dobong-gu public libraries in person to pick them up.
The service targets infants and toddlers (0 to 18 months old) residing in Dobong-gu, with applications accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from May 20 on the Dobong-gu Integrated Library website. Once the application and supporting documents are verified, starting June 1, book packages consisting of two picture books, a bag, and a guidebook will be delivered sequentially to the respective households.
The district plans to expand the target stages and quantities of Bookstart based on participation trends in the Book Ddok Ddok service. More detailed information is available on the Dobong-gu Integrated Library website (www.unilib.dobong.kr).
Since 2012, the district has been distributing Bookstart packages to infants and toddlers and conducting related book play programs. Once library programs normalize, various book play programs and parent education sessions will be provided through the Bookstart program to create more opportunities for babies and parents to interact through picture books.
A district official said, “We hope the Bookstart packages will have a positive impact on growing infants and toddlers and provide information on proper reading education, encouraging children to develop a love for books.”
