Daegu City Introduces QR Code System for COVID-19 Prevention Management

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 19th that starting from the 20th, it will gradually switch the visitor log management system, which has been manually recorded, to a QR code system beginning with City Hall, Daegu Art Museum, and E-World.

This response measure was taken in consideration of the difficulties faced by quarantine authorities in epidemiological investigations when confirmed cases of COVID-19 occurred centered around clubs in Itaewon, Seoul, and facility users falsified or omitted information in visitor logs.

The current visitor log method requires facility users to directly write their names and phone numbers in a visitor register, which is then kept by the facility manager. Due to this loophole, concerns about false visit records and personal information leakage have been continuously raised.

Under the QR code system, visitors will be able to enter facilities simply by scanning the QR code attached to the facility with their mobile phones, without the need to fill out a separate log. The collected personal information will be managed by Daegu City and used only for COVID-19 quarantine-related matters in case of emergency. Additionally, visit records will be automatically deleted after three months.

Daegu City will first pilot the QR code system for visitors to public facilities such as City Hall (main and annex buildings), Daegu Art Museum, which opens on the 20th, and representative multi-use facilities like E-World. It will then be gradually applied to other public and private multi-use facilities.

Kwon Young-jin, Mayor of Daegu, stated, "With the introduction of this QR code system, concerns about personal information will be significantly alleviated," and added, "Since preventing the spread of COVID-19 starts with accurate epidemiological investigations, I ask all citizens to actively use the QR code system."
