[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 19th that it has selected 'The Usefulness of History (Choi Taesung)' as the general book and 'The Worry Box (Jo Mija)' as the children's book for this year's One Book program to be read together with citizens.
Earlier, from the 6th to the 27th of last month, the city conducted an online vote for the selection of One Book through Jeongeup City Hall and Jeongeup City Library websites, as well as Jeongeup City's Facebook and other SNS channels.
'The Usefulness of History,' selected as the general book, is a book that allows citizens to take a time travel into history when they want to correct their lives, as there is no better explanation than history for the problem called life.
'The Worry Box,' selected as the children's book, is expected to deliver a positive message not only to children but also to adults, with the theme of changing one's mind about worries.
Although the One Book proclamation ceremony, which has been held in the past, was omitted this year to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the city plans to distribute the books not only to local libraries but also to coffee shops and community centers starting next month for the One Book reading relay.
In addition, in the second half of the year, the city plans to promote events such as meetings with authors, author lectures visiting schools, and reading discussions.
A city official said, "We hope that citizens will read and share One Book together amid the daily life affected by COVID-19 this year, spreading the book culture virus and comforting each other."
