[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) is stepping up to support the business activities of traditional markets and shopping districts.
Buk-gu announced on the 19th that it secured over 200 million KRW in national funding after being selected in last month’s “2020 Traditional Market and Shopping District Revitalization Support Supplementary Project” contest conducted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
This contest project was promoted to revitalize traditional markets and shopping districts struggling due to COVID-19.
The district applied for the market management voucher support sector together with merchant associations of Malbau Market, Duam Market, Fashion Street, Tool Street, Automobile Street, and Building Materials Street, achieving the remarkable feat of all six locations being selected.
The selected traditional markets and shopping districts plan to focus on recovering the depressed local commercial areas through projects tailored to their unique characteristics, such as customer participation festivals, sales and prize events, cultural performances, and promotional marketing, until the end of this year.
Along with this, Buk-gu also intends to actively provide administrative support to ensure the successful implementation of the projects.
District Mayor Moon In said, “Since this is a difficult time for everyone due to COVID-19, efforts for economic recovery alongside daily quarantine measures such as social distancing are important. We will continue to prepare various support measures so that traditional markets and shopping districts, which play a key role in the local economy, can regain vitality.”
Meanwhile, Buk-gu is conducting regular disinfection activities to prevent COVID-19 among merchants and customers operating traditional markets and shopping districts.
