Wando Saengildo, Installation of the Largest Birthday Cake Sculpture in Korea

Height 5.8m, Width 2.7m, 3-Tier Circular Structure Decorated with Various Seafood Catches Attention

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 19th that it has installed a birthday cake, the representative symbol of Saengildo, a desirable island, at the Seoseong Port passenger ship pier wharf and has been holding a special birthday celebration event unique to Saengildo since the 12th.

The birthday cake sculpture is a three-tiered circular structure measuring 5.8m in height and 2.7m in width, decorated with various seafood such as abalone and fruit sculptures, attracting attention.

The candle sculpture installed on top of the cake lights up at night, adding charm to the celebration event.

Also, when pressing the switch installed on the cake, various birthday celebration music plays, including a sweet Korean version of the congratulatory song, a lively rhythm version, and foreign language versions, enhancing the festive atmosphere of the event.

Meanwhile, the cake sculpture installed on the rooftop of the Seoseong Port waiting room was dismantled due to a diagnosis that it was old and severely damaged, making repairs difficult.

Saengildo, selected as a ‘Desirable Island’ by Jeollanam-do in 2016, is promoting tourism income generation by utilizing unique tourist resources based on its beautiful natural scenery.

Saengildo is rich in tourism and marine healing resources, including the Saengil Island Trail that offers outstanding coastal views centered around Baegunsan Mountain (446m), the second highest mountain in Wando, Geumgok Beach famous for its golden sand, Neodeolgeong, a great place to relax, and Yongchulli Pebble Beach, which uses the sound of waves to heal the mind.

In particular, pension-type accommodations are operated in Geumgok-ri and Yongchul-ri, and a resort with 21 rooms, a restaurant, and water play facilities is scheduled to open at Geumgok Beach in June, which is expected to increase the number of staying tourists.

Saengildo is about a 25-minute passenger ship ride from Dangmok Port on Yaksando and operates eight times a day.
