"The Regions with the Highest Increase in Delivery Due to COVID-19 Are Sejong and Chungbuk"

Barogo, Survey on Delivery Status in 17 Cities and Provinces Nationwide Related to COVID-19

Barogo, a local logistics startup (CEO Lee Taekwon), announced on the 19th the 'Delivery Status of 17 Cities and Provinces Nationwide Related to COVID-19,' which includes this information.

The survey results showed that the total number of delivery transactions in April this year (9.82 million) increased by 56.6% compared to January (6.27 million). The region with the highest delivery transaction growth rate during the same period was Sejong (61.8%). Following were Chungbuk (54.9%), Ulsan (42.6%), Busan (35.5%), Gyeonggi (32.6%), Gangwon (29.1%), Daegu (28.8%), Incheon (26.7%), Gwangju (26.4%), Seoul (24.2%), Jeonbuk (23.2%), Daejeon (20.4%), Gyeongnam (18.7%), Jeonnam (17.6%), Gyeongbuk (12.7%), Chungnam (12.7%), and Jeju (8%) in order of high growth rates.

The main reason for the significant increase in delivery transactions in Sejong City and Chungcheongbuk-do is analyzed to be that after the spread of COVID-19, public officials belonging to the COVID-19 response control tower and medical staff in the respective regions have been mainly eating delivered food. In fact, the Ministry of Health and Welfare is located in the government Sejong complex, and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency is in Chungcheongbuk-do.

As the number of delivery transactions increased, the number of delivery riders performing deliveries by region also rose. The number of riders who performed at least one delivery per month increased by 28.4% in April compared to January this year. In particular, the Daegu region showed a 58.5% increase during the same period. The growth rates of delivery riders in other regions were Seoul (36%), Gangwon (34.7%), Busan (33.9%), Sejong (30.6%), Jeju (29.4%), Gyeonggi (27.7%), Chungbuk (27.2%), Incheon (26.5%), Chungnam (23.6%), Jeonnam (22.3%), Gyeongbuk (21.5%), Daejeon (21.2%), Gyeongnam (17.8%), Jeonbuk (12.4%), and Ulsan (4.3%).

The number of stores requesting deliveries through the Barogo program also increased. The total number of stores requesting deliveries at least once a month through the Barogo program increased by 17.8% in April compared to January this year. The region with the highest increase was Daegu (58.4%), followed by Chungbuk (28.1%), Gyeonggi (23.9%), Busan (21.3%), and Gyeongnam (21.2%). It appears that as the delivery order volume increased in Daegu, which experienced the first large-scale regional COVID-19 infection outbreak in Korea, both the number of delivery riders and the number of stores requesting deliveries increased together.

Meanwhile, Barogo operates 800 hubs nationwide and has 25,000 riders working to deliver for about 60,000 stores.
