Dobong-gu, All Coin Karaoke Rooms Closed... 1 Million Won Support Fund Provided

Dobong-gu, All Coin Karaoke Rooms Closed... 1 Million Won Support Fund Provided

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) is recommending the temporary closure of coin karaoke rooms in the area following a series of infection cases originating from these venues, which have become hotspots for the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, Dobong-gu will provide emergency closure support funds of 1 million KRW each to businesses that close for two weeks.

To fundamentally block additional sources of infection caused by coin karaoke rooms and to prevent cluster infections in these venues, which are heavily used by teenagers following the school reopening on May 20, all coin karaoke rooms in Dobong-gu have begun temporary closure.

This emergency closure support has been accepting applications since May 15, and all coin karaoke rooms in Dobong-gu are participating in the two-week closure starting from May 15.

Sixteen coin karaoke rooms voluntarily closing to prevent COVID-19 will receive emergency closure support funds of 1 million KRW each in early June.

The district is currently verifying the actual closure status of coin karaoke rooms that applied for the support funds through day and night on-site inspections.

The district has been conducting on-site inspections to check compliance with quarantine guidelines and adherence to suspension of operations for 139 sports facilities since May 8, 260 karaoke rooms and PC rooms across the district from May 12 to 20, and 23 local entertainment bars from May 9 to 14. Currently, all 23 entertainment venues in the area are closed.

Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu stated, “We will do our best to protect the lives and safety of residents from COVID-19. Since confirmed cases frequently occur in crowded and enclosed spaces, we ask all residents to refrain from using group and multi-use facilities and to actively engage in daily quarantine practices.”
