GS25 Partners with Kakao to Launch 24-Hour Delivery Service

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Convenience store GS25 is expanding its delivery service partnership platform.

GS Retail, which operates convenience store GS25, announced on the 18th that it will launch the 'KakaoTalk Order' service in partnership with Kakao, marking the first collaboration of its kind in the distribution industry. GS25, which has established over 14,000 offline platforms, is partnering with Kakao, a mobile platform with 45 million monthly users, to expand the convenience store delivery service sector within the contactless consumption market.

Earlier this year, GS25 established a Delivery Innovation (DI) task force team (TFT). The GS25 stores where the KakaoTalk Order service has been introduced are seven locations in major metropolitan commercial districts including Gangnam, Yeoksam, Seocho, Sinchon, Konkuk University, Gwanak, and Bupyeong.

Through KakaoTalk Order, customers can order about 350 products from GS25, including fresh food, home meal replacements, beverages, daily necessities, and 1+1 promotional items (buy one, get one free). The service is accessible by adding the KakaoTalk Order channel as a friend or through the Order menu in the More tab.

Two GS25 stores located in Yeoksam and Gangnam offer the KakaoTalk Order service 24 hours a day, while the other five stores provide the service from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The minimum order amount is 10,000 KRW, and the basic delivery fee is 3,000 KRW. The order mediation and delivery are handled by the logistics startup Barogo.

Starting with pilot operations at seven stores located in various commercial areas such as academy districts, office areas, and residential neighborhoods, GS25 plans to expand the KakaoTalk Order service to all stores nationwide within this year.

Meanwhile, GS25 expanded its delivery service nationwide in March this year in partnership with Yogiyo, after piloting the service at about 10 GS25 stores. Currently, the number of GS25 stores offering delivery services has increased to around 2,000.
