Installation of Devices in Apartment Buildings Over 15 Floors Supported with 1 Million KRW per Unit for Use Over 10 Years...Submit Application Written in Name of Apartment Residents' Representative Meeting to District Office by 29th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is implementing a support project for the installation of self-generating devices in elevators of apartment complexes to recycle energy and reduce electricity bills.
A "self-generating elevator device" is a device that converts the energy generated by the motor when the elevator goes up or down into usable electricity. When installed, it reduces power consumption by 2,897 kWh per elevator annually, resulting in an energy-saving effect of 15-40% of the elevator's power consumption, which can reduce electricity bills by 30,000 to 40,000 KRW per month.
Additionally, it reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 1 ton annually, equivalent to planting about 320 young pine trees.
The support target is apartment complexes with 15 or more floors, where the self-generating device must be usable for more than 10 years after installation. The support limit is 1 million KRW per unit.
The support procedure involves submitting an application in the name of the apartment residents' representative meeting to the district office. Support targets are selected in order of priority based on complexes with many households under the national housing size (85㎡), complexes with a large total number of households, and complexes with taller buildings.
Before submitting the application, approval from the residents' representative meeting is required, and confirmation from the current elevator maintenance company must be obtained.
Selected apartment complexes notify the district office of the self-generating device installation company and install the device. After on-site verification by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), the final installation report and completion-related documents are submitted to the district office, which then confirms and provides subsidies to the respective apartment complexes.
It should be noted that installation is restricted for MRL-type elevators installed without a machine room. Also, it is necessary to verify in advance whether the device is approved by KEPCO.
Application documents can be found on the district office website, and applications can be submitted by visiting the district office, emailing (gwanseeum34@nowon.go.kr), or mailing by May 29.
Last year, a total of 318 elevators in Nowon-gu installed self-generating devices, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 318 tons and achieving about 82 million KRW in electricity savings.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, "Installing self-generating elevator devices has the dual effect of reducing greenhouse gases and lowering electricity bills," adding, "We will continue to do our best to improve residents' quality of life through eco-friendly policies."
