[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] As the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is increasing mainly among visitors to Itaewon clubs, the police have identified the mobile phone location information of 1,316 visitors at the time and delivered it to the quarantine authorities.
On the 14th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it provided the quarantine authorities with the mobile phone location information of confirmed COVID-19 patients and credit card users among those who visited Itaewon clubs and other places from the 24th of last month to the 6th of this month.
Earlier, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Yongsan-gu Office, and Seodaemun-gu Office requested the police to provide location information of confirmed patients, credit card users, and those who did not respond to phone calls among visitors to Itaewon clubs, as the number of COVID-19 infections through Itaewon clubs increased.
The police are analyzing 3.9 million pieces of location data from 1,316 mobile phones. The analysis results are expected to be provided to the quarantine authorities as early as today.
