[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Jung-gu Cultural Foundation Chungmu Art Center is recruiting creators for the new story writer development support project "Musical House Black & Blue 2020."
"Musical House Black & Blue 2020" is an operational program of the "2020 New Story Writer Development Support Project," hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency. It aims to nurture new creators and develop excellent creative works.
Now in its 7th season, this year’s program plans to select creators by expanding the genres of works, focusing on the development potential of original materials such as jukebox musicals, musical adaptations of movies, dramas, and webtoons, as well as storytelling for games and mobile sources. Stories from writers who have excellent material but lack dramatic structuring and scriptwriting will be intensively developed through one-on-one coaching with musical specialists. Support includes funding, rehearsal rooms, auxiliary facilities, performance venues, and promotion.
Mentors leading this season include director Kim Min-jung of "Spring Awakening," director Seong Jong-wan of "Rimbaud" and "The Hymn of Death," writer Jo Min-hyung of "Chami" and "Myeongdong Romance," writer Park Hae-rim of "Me, Natasha and the White Donkey," music director Park Jae-hyun of "The Man Who Laughs" and "Phantom," and music director Lee Jin-wook of "Rachmaninoff."
In previous seasons, works such as "Dwarfs," "Myeongdong Romance," and "Sidereus" succeeded in creative distribution. "Vampire Arthur," showcased in the Season 4 showcase in 2017, successfully completed its year-end performance in 2018 at Chungmu Art Center’s Black Theater.
Applications can be submitted until the 27th of this month via the Chungmu Art Center website and Storyum. A total of six teams will be selected through screening. The selected six teams will receive a support fund of 5 million KRW and expert mentoring, and will present a reading performance in September. Two teams selected through the reading performance will hold a showcase at Chungmu Art Center in January 2021 and will be developed into Chungmu Art Center’s original repertoire.
