[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lim Jae-woo] Gunsan City announced on the 13th that it will support interest on student loans for university students.
The support targets university students nationwide who, as of the 8th, have an address in the city and have received student loans (excluding living expenses) from the Korea Student Aid Foundation since 2016.
The application period is until June 12, and applicants can submit the application form, resident registration abstract, and enrollment (leave of absence) certificate through the city website or by visiting the Education Support Division.
The scope of student loan interest support covers "interest accrued in the first half of 2020 on loans taken out since 2016," and after review by the Gunsan City University Student Loan Interest Support Project Deliberation Committee, the funds will be deposited to the Korea Student Aid Foundation in August.
Jang Young-jae, head of the Education Support Division, stated, "We expect that the student loan interest support project will help university students reduce their financial burden even a little and focus on their studies. We will strive to promote this actively so that more students can receive support."
Meanwhile, applications for the second half of 2020 student loan interest support are scheduled to be held in October, and Gunsan City supported student loan interest for 251 students last year.
