[Asia Economy Reporters Kwangho Lee and Sehee Jang] Yoon Sung-wook, Director of the Fiscal Innovation Bureau at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, is reportedly the leading candidate for the new Economic Coordination Director at the Office for Government Policy Coordination.
According to sources from the Office for Government Policy Coordination and the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 13th, with former Economic Coordination Director Choi Chang-won promoted to the First Deputy Minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Yoon, who is from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, is being considered for the now-vacant Economic Coordination Director position.
A government official stated, "The Economic Coordination Director position is expected to be filled by a director-level official from the Ministry of Economy and Finance," adding, "The decision will be made through personnel verification by the Blue House."
The Economic Coordination Director at the Office for Government Policy Coordination oversees the administration of economic ministries and central administrative agencies, coordinates major policies, and establishes measures for current issues.
Director Yoon graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Business Administration and earned a master's degree from the same university's graduate school. He later obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Missouri in the United States. He is a fiscal expert who passed the 35th Administrative Examination and has served as a Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Director of the State Property Review Office, and Director of the Fiscal Management Bureau.
However, the appointment of the Economic Coordination Director requires the Prime Minister's recommendation followed by personnel verification by the Blue House. Unless there are disqualifications, the announcement is expected as early as this month or by early next month at the latest.
