[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Honam University (President Park Sangcheol) announced on the 13th that it is recruiting the first batch of students for the Gwangju AI (Artificial Intelligence) Officer School, which will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution era, until the 31st of this month.
Earlier, on March 6, Honam University signed a business agreement with Gwangju Metropolitan City, which is promoting the Gwangju AI Officer School, to cooperate in fostering practical AI professionals.
The main point of the agreement is that both institutions will cooperate to cultivate practical talents needed for the convergence of AI technology and regional industries and for the sustainable development of the university.
They also planned to design and share an AI talent cultivation system and agreed to recognize academic credits for students who complete the curriculum according to university academic standards.
The Gwangju AI Officer School, opening in July, will serve as a hub for training AI specialists in the Gwangju area, which pursues an "AI-centered city." The Gwangju Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency, an organization under Gwangju City, will lead the practical talent training.
The Gwangju AI Officer School, which will be responsible for serving as a base for the AI industry in Gwangju, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, and Jeju regions, accepts applicants aged 18 to 39 with no restrictions on academic background or major. However, applicants must pass a selection exam after receiving certain education in programming language understanding and algorithms.
Applicants will receive online basic training from the 21st of this month to the 17th of next month.
In the online course, they will receive 160 hours of education covering AI overview, programming languages such as Python, and more.
Honam University, which has been conducting AI convergence education for all students since this year, is actively encouraging participation from graduating students and alumni. In particular, graduating students who complete this training course will be credited with a total of 12 academic credits.
Gwangju City will provide 160 hours of online basic courses including AI overview to applicants and conduct a final selection exam. Trainees will receive incentives, and top performers will be awarded prizes and opportunities for overseas study tours.
At Korea’s first AI Officer School, practical personnel will be trained to work at AI-related institutions, companies, and research institutes. A consortium including the coding education institution "Like a Lion" will be responsible for practical training.
Honam University, the only university in Gwangju selected by the Ministry of Education as a leading university for the 4th Industrial Revolution innovation, declared itself an AI-specialized university last year and is accelerating the cultivation of AI convergence talents for all students through the establishment of an AI convergence campus and curriculum innovation.
