Gwangju Seo-gu '5·18 Historical and Cultural Exploration' Program Held


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) announced on the 13th that it will conduct the 5·18 Historical and Cultural Exploration Program starting from the 16th.


Under the theme "5·18 40th Anniversary, May Road in Seo-gu," this historical and cultural exploration is promoted in connection with the Seo-gu Cultural Center as part of the 7th local government administration's pledge projects.


This exploration, which involves visiting and experiencing the 5·18 Democratic Movement historical sites and cultural heritage, will be held six times on the 16th and 23rd of this month, the 13th and 27th of next month, September 26th, and October 24th.


The exploration hours are from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM.


The program consists of ▲field visits to the 5·18 historical sites, 5·18 Memorial (Freedom) Park, sculptures near Yangdong Market, and mural streets ▲storytelling at Byeokjin Seowon (Master Park Gwangok of Hoejae) and woodblock rubbing experience ▲court and detention room experience through reenactment at 5·18 Freedom Park ▲making and sharing rice balls at 5·18 Freedom Park.


In particular, participants on the 16th will also take part in the "5·18 Historical Site Pilgrimage Seo-gu Residents Concert" held at Nongsung Square, the 5·18 historical site No. 16, to elevate the significance of the 40th anniversary of the 5·18 Democratic Movement.


A Seo-gu official said, "Although it is a painful history for the citizens of Gwangju, the 5·18 Democratic Movement was a major turning point that created today's democratic society," and added, "We hope this program will be an opportunity to enhance the pride of local residents in the democratization movement."
