Jung-gu Supports the Normalization of Management at Jeil Hospital with a Half-Century History

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu District Office (Mayor Seoyangho) announced that on the 12th at 4 PM, a community briefing session for the management normalization of Jeil Hospital, operated by the medical corporation Jeil Medical Foundation, was held in the basement level 3 of the Moa Center at Jeil Hospital.

Hosted by Jeil Hospital, this briefing session was attended by Jung-gu Mayor Seoyangho, local organizations, residents, medical institutions, and patient association representatives from nearby areas, who listened attentively to the plans for normalizing Jeil Hospital’s management despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.

Jeil Hospital, which opened in 1963 as the first women’s specialty hospital in Korea, entered court receivership under the Seoul Rehabilitation Court due to severe financial difficulties caused by the low birthrate and hospital expansion through extensions and renovations. However, it faithfully implemented its rehabilitation plan, including partial land sales, and ended court receivership in December last year.

Accordingly, Jeil Hospital prepared this occasion to share its plans for reorganizing medical functions and promoting management normalization with Jung-gu residents, medical companies, and surrounding businesses, aiming to strengthen cooperation within the local community.

At this event, Jeil Hospital announced that starting from October this year, it will withdraw from the main building and outpatient center it had maintained, reduce the scale and functions of the obstetrics and gynecology department, and reorganize medical functions focusing on the remaining four buildings.

Instead, it plans to restructure as a women’s specialty customized hospital centered on the Gynecologic Oncology Center, Breast Center, Obesity Metabolism Center, and Health Promotion Center, and resume management normalization.

Mayor Seoyangho of Jung-gu, who attended the event, said, "Jeil Hospital is a proud hospital with a half-century history, having built know-how and reputation through high-level medical technology related to obstetrics and gynecology. Despite significant changes in the management environment such as court receivership and asset sales, I support and encourage Jeil Hospital’s efforts to reorganize its facilities and functions through the shared sacrifices and dedicated efforts of its executives and staff as it prepares for a new leap forward."

He added, "With recent discussions about the relocation of the National Medical Center, Jeil Hospital’s efforts to normalize management will be a great opportunity to expand medical service infrastructure so that local residents can receive high-quality medical care. The district office will also seek various cooperative measures, including reviewing permits and approvals, to support Jeil Hospital’s management normalization."
